Getting started
I'm a teacher
Sign up and choose "Teacher". You land on My Class. Add a piece, record a reference performance so your students can hear what you mean, then assign it. To add a student, go to My Students and create an invite — the app mints a code you read out or show as a QR. The student enters it when they sign up.
I'm a student
You need a code from your teacher before you can sign up — CherryBerry does not let a student create an account that is not attached to a real teacher. Ask your teacher for one. Once you are in, My Music shows what has been assigned to you.
Common questions
- My teacher's code doesn't work.
- Codes are single use and expire after seven days. If somebody else has already used it, or it is more than a week old, ask your teacher for a fresh one. Codes never contain the letters I, L, O or U, so if you are reading one off a board, a "0" is a zero and a "1" is a one.
- The metronome won't make a sound.
- Check the silent switch on the side of your phone, and check the volume. If the app has not been given microphone permission, iOS may also route audio unexpectedly — Settings › CherryBerry › Microphone.
- I can't record.
- CherryBerry needs microphone permission. Go to Settings › CherryBerry and turn on Microphone. If you said no when first asked, that is the only place to change it.
- Where did my video go?
- Video stays on the device that recorded it and is never uploaded. Your teacher receives the sound only. This is deliberate. If you delete the app, the video goes with it.
- I didn't get a notification.
- Open the bell in the app and tap "Turn on notifications". Without permission iOS never delivers anything, and it will look as though the app is broken rather than unauthorised.
- I forgot my password.
- If you gave a recovery email when you signed up, use the reset link on the sign-in screen. If you did not, write to james.chang@igoodworks.com from an address a parent or your teacher can confirm, and we will help.
- How do I import a piece?
- As MusicXML, or as a PDF that a notation program exported. Both read the notes out of the file exactly. A photograph of a page, or a PDF that is a scan of a page, cannot be read into notes — you can still attach it as sheet music for a student to read, and record the audio yourself.
- How do I cancel a subscription?
- Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. On your device: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › CherryBerry. Cancelling there stops the renewal.
Deleting your data
You can delete any single recording from the app. To delete your whole account and everything in it, go to Settings › Privacy › "Delete my account and data", or write to us. Deletion removes your profile, recordings, practice history, submissions and the feedback on them, and it cannot be undone.
